Dehradun, Uttarakhand – The BJP government in Uttarakhand has decided to abolish the Madrasa Board. In its place, a new authority has been established. Following the Governor’s assent, the Uttarakhand State Minority Education Authority has been formed, and a notification regarding its establishment has been issued.
According to the notification, the Authority will be an 11-member body with Prof. Surjeet Singh Gandhi, a retired professor from BSM PG College, Roorkee as its chairman.
The Authority will now formulate policies regarding minority educational institutions. It will primarily oversee the management of Madrasas, and will also determine the educational structure and curriculum. This new Authority will come into effect from 1st July 2026.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that the Uttarakhand Minority Education Authority will now decide the type of education to be provided to minority students. The decision to establish this Authority follows the government’s move to scrap the Madrasa Board. It will now be mandatory for all minority educational institutions to seek affiliation from the Uttarakhand Board of School Education.
