Canadian Rapper Tommy Genesis hurts Hindu sentiments with Maa Kali portrayal

Canadian rapper of Indian origin, Tommy Genesis released a music video in which she appears to be dressed as the revered Hindu Goddess Maa Kali, but in an explicit and disrespectful manner. The video, filled with provocative imagery and suggestive dance moves appears to deliberately mock the Hindus Goddess.

Many HIndus and Hindu organisations have condemned the video, asserting that it is a blatant attack on Hindu beliefs and sentiments. The portrayal crosses all boundaries of artistic expression and ventures into offensive territory meant to provoke and degrade Hindu beliefs.

Calls for accountability are growing louder, with thousands demanding that the rapper immediately delete the controversial video. Hashtags like #RespectHinduDeities and #ApologizeTommyGenesis are trending on social media platforms. Several Hindus have questioned whether such portrayals would be tolerated if done with religious figures of other faiths, pointing to a clear double standard in artistic freedom. The act has also sparked debates around global media’s repeated misrepresentation of Hindu deities under the guise of “art.”

Hindu devotees are urging cultural and governmental institutions to step in and ensure that such deeply offensive content is taken down and never repeated. The incident has once again brought to light the need for global respect towards Hindu symbols and the necessity to protect religious sentiments from being commercialised or mocked.
