HJS’s Khadkvasla lake campaign: Police’s apathy!

Pune: Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has been strongly undertaking its campaign to protect the Khadkvasla reservoir. In the same way Pune police were to undertake a drive for protecting the water reservoir at Khadkvasla from those who play Holi and later have bath in the water reservoir. A public letter was issued appealing people against using the lake for bath and contamination of water. Police, however, reached the Khadkvasla dam late in the afternoon and started to drive away people trying to enter the water reservoir.

When the youth saw police arriving on the scene, they started playing Holi with colours, on the bank of the reservoir. Some of the members of public, however, were arguing with the police, as they wanted to enter water. Police started taking strict action against people spoiling the water; but most of the people were having bath, washing their vehicles in the water. Things like drinking liquor, teasing girls, driving rashly etc were going on till police arrived. Although it was the responsibility of administration and police to control the situation, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has been strongly undertaking its campaign to protect the Khadkvasla reservoir. Despite appealing police to control misuse of water and save water reservoir, police reached late when the damage was already done.
