Panvel: It is an observed fact that in the name of nearly all-Hindu festivals, certain anti-social elements indulge in malpractices such as hooliganism, misbehaving with women, forcible collection of funds, etc. There is a rise in the said malpractices, particularly during the festival of Holi and Ganeshotsav, a fact that is disturbing. Last year, 4 people lost their lives in a riot that emerged on account of eve teasing during a religious celebration at Ghansoli.

All these untoward incidents prove to be a stigma on Hindu Dharma. To eradicate such malpractices, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti and Sanatan Sanstha joined together on the occasion of Holi and Rangpanchami and conducted a mass awareness campaign in Panvel city with the co-operation of the Panvel city police. As a part of the campaign, loudspeakers were attached to vehicles and an appeal was made to the public in the form of announcements to help eradicate malpractices. Also people were informed on ‘How to celebrate the festival in an ideal manner’.

In addition to this, first-aid facilities were also provided to people under the guidance of Dr. Chandrashekhar Prasadi. The ex-Corporator of Panvel city, Shri. Sunil Gharat provided an ambulance free-of-charge for one full day to facilitate this. This campaign received an overwhelming response from the youth of Panvel city.
