Chandigarh : Days after Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi flagged off relief material for monsoon ravaged Uttarakhand, victims on Friday refused to eat the food given to them.
What the villagers in Uttarakhand’s Guptkashi have deemed as ‘wrong help’ rotten food has reached them. The flood-hit victims are irate at the fact that rice and pulses that reached them had photos of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. It is learnt the relief material is sub-standard and many villagers have received food grains infested with worms.
According to a villager, “This is our insult. What makes people think we will eat rotten or inedible food just because we are victims of a disaster?”
Meanwhile, it is learnt that people have been sending puris (fried bread), cooked rice, curry for the flood-hit victims. But before it gets there it is rotten.
Vijay Bahuguna-led Uttarakhand government has stated a panel will be set up to inquire whether people were given rotten or inedible food.
