The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Cuffe Parade, today assured Hindu Janjagruti Samiti that M.F. Husain would be arrested within a "week"(?). An offense was registered by the Police in the Cuffe Parade Police Station, which is also near to the painter’s residence. Mr. Shankar Gaykar, the state president of Bajrang Dal handed over a petition to the Police Deputy Commissioner demanding arrest of the painter. Earlier, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal along with HJS activists has staged aggressive protests condemning his naked painting of Bharatmata(Mother India). Shri Gaykar said that Husain is an ugly blot to the reputation of Nation’s Rajya Sabha.
Speaking to the press, HJS Maharashtra State Spokesperson Shri Ramesh Shinde said that Husain had apologized only for his Bharatmata Painting and not for his other paintings which carnalise Hindu Dharma. Hence HJS would not rest till he is arrested.
