Uttarakhand : While Uttarakhand reels under catastrophic flood, an advertisement blitz launched by the Vijay Bahuguna Government has added insult to the injury of the victims.
The advertisement, issued by Uttarakhand Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department, published in local newspapers on Monday, contains photographs of a smiling Congress president Sonia Gandhi and an elated Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, however, did not betray his demeanor.
While the State’s lackadaisical response to the flood victims is just one instance of the inefficiency of the Government, this blunder has reflected a deeper level of apathy which becomes gruesome in such circumstances.
Realising the goof up, the I&PR Department came out with an edited version of the advertisement on Tuesday. Though the new advertisement shows the Congress president and the Chief Minister in a sombre mood, a photograph of a smiling Disaster Management Minister Yashpal Arya is the new induction.
The advertisement has serious spelling errors. The first advertisement even couldn’t spell the name of the hilly State right. ‘Uttarakhand’ was spelt as ‘Uttrakhand’. Moreover, ‘relief measures’ was spelt as “relief measurers”.
The advertisements has made tall claims about Congress Government’s relief measures.
