Crowd chants ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ during Muharram procession in Ujjain, six arrested

Madhya Pradesh police arrested six people and detained over ten on Friday for raising ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans during a Muharram procession in Ujjain on Thursday evening. The video of the procession where the crowd can be seen cheering for Pakistan has gone viral on social media.

Reportedly, the Muharram procession while crossing Geeta Colony in Ujjain was stopped by the police owing to Covid-19 norms and guidelines. This irked the crowd who began chanting slogans hailing Pakistan.

The incident occurred at around 10:15 PM on Thursday when Zafar, Anees, Abdul, Ajeej and others began sloganeering. After this, a heavy police force had to be deployed with senior officers rushing to the spot.

Superintendent of police (SP), Ujjain, Satendra Kumar Shukla said that ten persons had been identified on the basis of a video clip. “We have arrested four persons and detained some of the suspects. They are being interrogated. The rest of the accused are absconding. Police teams have been fanned and absconding accused will be arrested soon,” he said. The perpetrators are all in the age group of 20-25 years.

As per a Dainik Bhasker report, SP Amrendra Singh confirmed the incident and informed that investigations are on. A case under sections 124A, 153B and 188 has been registered against the accused.

Taking strong objection Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan warned that “Taliban culture won’t be tolerated in the country”.

“Indians are patriots, barring exceptions. But those who support the Taliban mentality or indulge in anti-national activities will be crushed,” he added.

Immediately arrest the anti-nationals raising slogans of ‘Pakistan Zindabad’! – Hindu Janajagruti Samiti

On 15th August, slogans of ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ were raised within the jurisdiction of Netaji Nagar at Indore and Ujjain, on the day of Muharram. It is a very serious matter and dangerous for the internal security of this country; besides, for maintaining peace in Madhya Pradesh. The 11 persons in the case of Ujjain, who were accused of sedition, are still roaming scot-free. They should be immediately arrested and stringent action should be taken against them. The above demand has been made by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS)

In a press note published by HJS, Mr Anand Jakhotia, HJS- State Coordinator for Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh has stated that Ujjain is an ancient city of Hindus where devotees come from different parts of the country and abroad for the ‘darshan’ of the famous Shri Mahankal. Such slogans were purposely raised at the place of worship i.e. the city of Bhagavan Mahankal, to hurt Hindus’ faith. On one hand, restrictions are imposed on the religious festivals of Hindus in the name of the Corona pandemic; while the minority population is allowed to publicly celebrate their festivals. Hindus naturally have such questions. The relaxation of rules during the period of Eid in Kerala has led to an increase in Corona patients on a large scale. In this background, inquiry should also be made whether permission was obtained for taking out a procession at Ujjain on Muharram.
