#Arrest_Prakash_Jha trends as Hindus fume against Hinduphobic ‘Aashram’ web series

MXPlayer, the video streaming and player app owned by Times Internet (the web arm of the Times Group), has released a web series called Aashram in August 2020. According to the makers, the series directed by Prakash Jha ‘is an attempt to unmask the fake godmen who prey upon gullible people’. They say this very clearly in a ‘disclaimer’ where they claim to hold ‘all religions and traditions of the land in high regard’. But as we will see, this disclaimer is nothing but an attempt to deflect any potential legal action, considering the series only seems to target Hindu beliefs and systems. Now its another chapter i.e. Aashram 2 is going to be released in November 2020.

Hindus were outraged to learn about this and took to Twitter with demand to arrest Prakash Jha, director and producer, of the Aashram web series. In the morning, the hashtag #Arrest_Prakash_Jha started trending along with some keywords like ‘Aashram’. The trend was on 4th and 5th spot for few hours in top 10 national trends on Twitter. More than 20,000 tweets were tweeted with the said hashtag.
