Vile Parle (Mumbai) : A police officer from one police station in Mumbai has installed Ganesh idol on the occasion of Ganesh festival. The idol of Shri Ganesh installed by him is in attire of traffic police’s uniform. Last year too, he had installed similar idol. News on the same was published in ‘Dainik Sanatan Prabhat’ dated 4th September. Such kind of denigration of Shri Ganesh should be stopped, was the demand made by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) through representation submitted to senior PI Smt. Alka Nandave on 9th September. She said, “We shall talk to the concerned police officer. You are doing good work.”

1. It has been stated in the representation that Lord Ganesh has been personified as human by installing Ganesh idol in uniform of traffic police. Shri Ganesh is the primary worshipped Deity of Hindus. Such denigration of Shri Ganesh has hurt our religious sentiments.

2. Special Inspector General of Police (law and order) Gulabrao Pol had issued a circular no. PO. Ma. Sa./20/199/Sankeern/241/2009 in this connection; under which showing great national leaders, Deities etc in human attire leading to their disrespect and insult, and cognizable matter. It can create law and order problems. Police should therefore, take preventive action in such cases, says this circular. A copy of this circular was enclosed to HJS representation.

3. Demand has been made that considering the above circular and section 295A of Indian Constitution; besides Indian Trade Practices Act etc, action should be taken against the guilty officer and denigration of Shri Ganesh taking place through such idol in traffic police uniform should be stopped.

4. Shri. Satish Sonar, Shri. Anil Naik of HJS and devout Hindus viz. Shri. Vinod Pagdhare, Shri. Kishore Raut and Shri. Sachin Matal were present on the occasion.
