Kolhapur : Scum discarded by factories, and sewage water from city is left in river water throughout the year, causing large-scale pollution of river. The Government doesn’t seem to take any notice of such pollution. The Municipal Corporation should not therefore, promote the concept of idol-donation, by overlooking pollution created by factories and other things. The above demand was made by Shri. Sambhajirao Bhokare, Dy. District-Chief of Shiv Sena. The representation addressed to Municipal Commissioner was submitted to divisional engineer Arunkumar Gawali, against artificial water tanks and donation of Shri Ganesh idols since it is against ‘Dharma-shaastra’. Representation was also submitted demanding prohibition on use of paper pulp in making Shri Ganesh idols.

Shri. Pramod Sawant, a member of ‘Ambabai Bhakta Samiti’ said, “The purpose of ‘puja’ performed during Ganesh Chaturthi and later, immersion of idols is mainly for benefit of everyone. Immersion of Shri Ganesh idol is an act as per spiritual science; therefore, there should not be any interference by government administration in a religious matter like immersion of idol.” Shri. Ashok Ramchnadani, city-Chief of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), devout Hindu activists Shri. Jaideep Shelake, Shri. Krushant Babar, Shri. Jagadale, Shiv Sena area-Chief Shri. Lakshman Laud; besides Shri. Shivananda Swami and Sou. Rajashree Tiwari of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) along with other devout Hindus were present on the occasion.
