Homage paid to martyrs at ‘Hatakataro Khamb’ in by patriotic citizens on ‘Goa Kranti Din’

Panaji : Goanese Hindus, who sacrificed their life under Portuguese regime during inquisition, were paid homage at ‘Hatakataro Khamb (Inquisition pillar)’, their memorial, on ‘Goa Kranti Din’ by ‘Shiva-Yoddha’, ‘Gomantak Mandir and Dharmik Sanstha Mahasangh’, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS), Sanatan Sanstha and local people. The ancient structure of ‘Hatakataro Khamb’ should be declared as archaeological site and should be preserved. A board should be displayed here explaining history of this place for visitors to know the significance of the place, were demands made on the occasion.

‘Hatakataro Khamb’ area was first cleaned and the memorial was then garlanded, paying homage to martyrs. Shri. Satyavijay Naik, South Goa Coordinator of HJS said, “History cannot be created by those who forget their history; but history can be created by those who remember history. ‘Hatakataro Khamb’ is a witness that keeps alive memories of valour and restraint. It is a symbol of Goanese who sacrificed their life to preserve their self-respect. We should always be grateful to those people of Goa. Today’s young generation should make a resolve for protection of nation and Dharma.”

Professor Sandip Palani, Professor Mukund Kavathankar, Shri. Chandrakant (Bhai) Pundit, Shri. Gopal Bandiwad, Shri. Madhav Virdikar, Shri. Mandar Naik, Shri. Satish Borkar, Shri. Jayesh Thali and students of Madakaikar Navachaitanya High School were present on the occasion. These students first took out a march in the morning.
