Custom of burning effigy of Narakasura should be stopped : Sudin Dhavalikar

Congratulations to Shri. Sudin Dhavalikar, PWD Minister of Goa for expressing right opinion against malpractice of Narkasur effigy burning !

MGP and all Gram-Panchayats from Madakai constituency to celebrate Deepavali as per our culture

Ponda : We are forgetting our customs and history owing to the custom of burning effigy of Narakasura, followed even now. Our youth is wasting their valuable time in life in making such pictures/ effigies which is self-detrimental. The custom of burning Narakasura effigy needs to be stopped. Burn wrong thoughts and perversions and get ready to face good new way of thinking while enjoying Diwali festival, was the appeal made by Shri. Sudin Dhavalikar, Minister – Public Works Department (PWD).

On 20th October, Diwali will be celebrated collectively by bringing together all citizens from Madakai constituency at late Bhausaheb Bandodkar ground at Bandoda. In this background, Minister Shri. Dhavalikar recently inspected the venue and had discussions with engineers from his department, Sarpanch Shri Rajesh Kavalekar from Kavale etc on 14th October. Minister Dhavalikar said further, “Following culture and traditions helps in Character building. All festivals associated with Deepavali should be celebrated together and enjoyed in true sense. Narakasura should not be given unnecessary importance. Holding competitions for making effigies of Narakasura in every village leads to students neglecting their studies; therefore, such Narakasura competitions should not be held. Today’s youth is the future of this State and proper ‘sanskars’ should be inculcated in them. Children stay awake till late night for preparing effigies, pictures of Narakasura and later, they fall prey to addictions. Vehicles are driven rashly on the occasion of Narakasura competition resulting in at least 30-40 accidents on the eve of Diwali. Goans need to think about it so that importance given to Narakasura would reduce and importance of Shrikrushna will increase; because such atmosphere in whole Goa State would be charged with good values and culture during throughout Deepavali festival.

  1. Agree and concur with him by all means, we need to purify our selves internally and externally as well, rather than burning the effigies; in turn, doing so we lose time and stake our health too. Its a fundamental basic Dharma of one and all. Share light with all.
