HJS demands to Minister Shripad Naik to establish generic drugs outlets in Goa

HJS delegation handing over memorandum to the Central Minister for AYUSH Shri. Shripad Naik

Panaji : Hindu Janajagruti Samiti’s (HJS) delegation demanded to Central Minister for AYUSH Shri. Shripad Naik to establish Generic Drugs outlets in all the major hospitals, cities and towns of Goa. HJS delegation was comprised of Shri. Chandrakant (Bhai) Pandit of Gomantak Mandir Mahasangh, Jayesh Thali of HJS and others. A memorandum was submitted to the Central Minister for AYUSH Shri. Shripad Naik.

Memorandum says that now a days the incidents of corruption, deceit and incompetency in every field of the society have become the order of the day. As a result, the common public is facing a lot of hardships. Therefore, HJS has taken decision to start ‘Elimination of Evil Tendencies in the Society Movement’.  HJS demand to establish Generic Drugs outlets in Goa is also a part of this movement. The branded (Generic) medicines are sold at significantly higher prices than their un-branded generic equivalents, though are identical in therapeutic value. Considering the widespread weaker economical condition in Goa,  people find it difficult to afford the more expensive branded category of medicines. Hence, making the reasonably priced quality generic medicines available in the market would benefit everyone.

Prime Minister Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) has been initiated by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India, and is being launched with the noble objective of making quality generic medicines available at affordable prices for all, particularly the poor. The Pharma Advisory Forum in its meeting held on 23rd April 2008, decided to launch the Jan Aushadhi Paryojana in various Districts of the country; however, till date there is no such outlet of Generic Medicines in Goa. Goa Medical College provides free medicines to the patients; yet, there are many medicines which a patient has to purchase from pharmacy. Fact is, a common man must get the necessary medicines at an affordable price at every possible outlet in Goa.
