Miraj : Any festival has to be celebrated after understanding the science behind celebrating such festival. If idols are made with clay, there is no problem of pollution. Artificial water tank and idols made of paper pulp is against ‘Dharma-shastra’; therefore, immersion of idols should be done only in flowing water. The above opinion was expressed by Shri. Girish Pujari of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) while speaking in a meeting held here by ‘Miraj city Ganeshotsav Samiti’. The meeting was attended by more than 100 representatives from 35 Ganeshotsav Mandals from all over the city.

1. Shri. Omkar Shukla, the Convener of ‘Miraj city Ganeshotsav Samiti’ and Chief of BJP’s cultural-front made an appeal during the meeting that Ganeshotsav Mandals should celebrate Ganesh festival as per ‘Dharma-shastra’ and immerse idols in flowing water.

2. Shri. Girish Pujari gave details of pollution of various rivers caused due to sewage water and factories’ effluents, when the members of few Ganeshotsav Mandals spontaneously said that the point raised regarding immersion was right and they would immerse idols only in flowing water. Few members brought it to the notice of others, posts received by them on ‘Whats’ AP’ regarding idols immersed in artificial water tanks, later thrown in open fields.
