Panaji (Goa): The National Council for Educational Research and Training (N.C.E.R.T.) has once again accorded negligible status to Shivaji Maharaj in its Std. VII history text. Also, there has been a constant rise in incidences of thefts in temples in recent times. The government has failed to curb the same. In order to direct its attention to these important issues, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has decided to stage demonstrations near  Sree Hanuman Temple at KTC Bus Stand at Panaji on 27th August at 3 pm.

The said textbook contains pictures of all kings of the Mughal Empire; but not a single picture of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji Maharaj. The said text contains lessons viz. ‘The Mughal Empire’ and ‘Rulers and Buildings’ that glorify Mughals and contain very rare pictures of Mughal kings, viz. Akbar, Babur, Jahangir, Shahjahan, Aurangzeb, etc. The HJS has already submitted a memorandum to the government demanding that it should clarify its policy in this regard. The government, while informing the HJS that it has submitted the above memorandum to the Director of Higher Education, has not declared its policy in this context.

After the series of rising incidences of desecration of temples and idols in Goa, now the trend has shifted to theft in temples of Goa. Such incidences are an attack on Hindu Dharma. It is the duty of the government to safeguard temples. The HJS has appealed to all Hindus to participate in above demonstration.
