Immersion of Sree Ganesha idols should be allowed in natural water resource

Amaravati(Maharashtra): Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has demanded through a representation submitted to the District Collector, Police Commissioner, Municipal Commissioner and Mayor that Amaravati Municipal Corporation should not construct artificial water tanks for immersion of Sree Ganesha idols and allow Sree Ganesha devotees to immerse the idols in natural water resource as prescribed in ‘Dharmashastra’.

Last year, the municipal corporation had constructed artificial water tanks, compelled Ganesha devotees to donate idols and immerse the idols in the artificial water tanks. Later, the idols were taken out from the tanks to nearby hutments; their limbs were broken and they were powdered. A wrong and unscientific propagation is being made that immersion of idols causes water pollution. The representation submitted by HJS says that immersion of idols does not cause pollution and there is a report to that effect by environmentalists and ‘Air Quality Management Cell’.

About 45 members of various organizations like HJS, Dharmashakti Sena, Ranaragini, Sanatan Sanstha were present on the occasion. A copy of the representation was also given to Mr. Bablu Shekhawat, the Chairman of the Standing Committee of Municipality when he requested the HJS members to attend the planning meeting to be held in connection with Ganesh Festival. The Dy. Municipal Commisisoner also assured to take care during immersion of Sree Ganesha idols. Mr. Sanjay Agrawal, the Opposition leader also promised to present the topic on receiving a copy of the representation.
