Kalyan (Maharashtra): Mr. Ramesh Jadhav, the Mayor of KDMC, Mr. Narendra Pawar, its Dy. Mayor and Mr. Sachin Basre, the leader of the House reacted positively to the demand made by a delegation of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) for ban on immersion of Sree Ganesha idols in artificial water tanks. They also promised to invite HJS for meetings to be held with ‘Ganeshotsava’ Committees and the police and extend assistance to HJS campaign. (Congratulations to Mr. Ramesh Jadhav, the Mayor of KDMC, Mr. Narendra Pawar, its Dy. Mayor and Mr. Sachin Basre, the leader of the House for giving positive response to the HJS demand! Delegation of HJS recently called on the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and the leader of the House to submit memorandum to the above effect. The delegation comprised of Mr. Pramod Joshi, the national spokesperson of Hindu Mahasabha, Mrs. Sudha Joshi, advocate of ‘Durgavahini’, Mr. Shivaji Vatkar, the spokesperson of HJS and few other members viz. Mr. Ajay Sambhus, Mrs. Bhakti Gailad etc. Similar memorandum will also be submitted to the Municipal Commissioner shortly.

It has been mentioned in the memorandum that ‘for the past few years, devotees from industrial area, Rotary Club on Dr. Rajendraprasad Road in Dombivali (East) and Municipal Corporation have been requested to immerse Sree Ganesha idols in the ‘Syntex’ water tanks. The idols so immersed in the tanks do not dissolve properly and the broken parts are later taken out, ground and disposed of. HJS has been explaining about the resulting denigration owing to such immersion of idols to the people; even then these things have been going on leading to hurting religious sentiments of the people. Artificial water tanks are constructed by creating so much noise about pollution. It is against Hindu Dharmashastra to immerse idols in such manner.’

The delegation presented evidence about immersion of idols not causing any kind of pollution. The dignitaries, then, assured the delegation that such wrong practice would not be followed this year. They were also informed about the campaign undertaken by HJS for celebration of ‘Ganesha Festival’ as per the science.

Mr. Joshi of Hindu Mahasabha pointed out that the idols were immersed in the drainage water contaminated with the effluents near ‘Century Chemicals’ factory in Kalyan.
