HJS members and devout Hindus submitting memorandum to Mayor of Pune |
Pune (Maharashtra): During the Ganesha Festival, citizens should insist for idols made of clay. The above appeal has been made by Mayor Mohan singh Rajpal. The Municipal Corporation has built water tanks in the river-bed; but immersion of idols should be done in flowing water as per Hindu ‘Dharmashastra’. Hindu Janajagrtui Samiti (HJS) submitted a memorandum to the Mayor for the above demand. Mr. Sunil Ghanavat of HJS, Mr. Raj Yadav of ‘Marda Maratha’ and many members were present on the occasion.
The Mayor listened to what HJS had to say. Mr. Ghanavat explained the science behind immersion of idols in flowing water. He said, “Some atheist organizations are opposing immersion under the pretext of pollution and take idols as donation from the devotees. The Municipality also appeals people to immerse idols in water tanks rather than river which is against the ‘Dharmashstra’. The ‘Air Quality Management Cell’ of the Municipal Corporation has given a report that immersion of idols does not cause pollution. Many environmentalists have also proved that immersion of idols does not result in pollution of water. The Science says that the idols should be immersed in natural flowing water and the devotees also want to bid farewell to the Deity with love and affection; but the ‘Mutha’ River is so dirty that devotees opt for water tanks. The Corporation has no plan for disposing the idols immersed in water tanks. When the idols immersed in such water tanks, are later carried to another place, they are in broken state causing their denigration. If the Municipal Corporation takes up the task of cleaning river bed now itself, the devotees will willingly immerse idols in river water and follow ‘Dharmacharan’. The Mayor said that he agreed with HJS views and would take up the matter in the meeting to be held in connection with ‘Ganesha Festival’.
Other important demands made by HJS
1. The colour used for making the idols should be natural and no chemicals should be used for the same.
2. Not to be misguided by the wrong propagation of anti-Dharma organizations regarding pollution.
3. On the day of immersion, to be present just as observers and should not advocate immersion of idols in artificial water tanks or donation of the idols.
