HJS delegation members submitting memorandum to Mayor of Navi Mumbai

Navi Mumbai: Last year, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) had undertaken a drive creating awareness among the people that Ganesha idols should not be immersed in artificial water tanks. A delegation of HJS called on the Mayor and Municipal Commissioner of Navi Mumbai and explained to them about the dive. It was also brought to their notice the nominal response by the people to immersion of idols in artificial water tanks leading to wastage of water and money in erection of such water tanks. Such immersion of the idols which is against ‘Dharmashastra’ is hurting religious sentiments of Hindus, informed Mr. Shivaji Vatkar, the district-coordinator of HJS for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad to Mr. Sagar Naik, the Mayor. A memorandum was submitted to him demanding against construction of such water tanks. Mr. Naik assured that artificial water tanks will not be constructed this year and immersion will take place in the natural water sources.

Mayor, Mr. Naik said, “Instead of constructing artificial water tanks, we shall divide the natural lake in two parts and make it available for immersion.” The delegation then called on Mr. Vijay Nahta, the Commissioner and apprised him of the issue. He too gave a positive assurance. Mr. Mohan Dagaokar, the city engineer was also explained the matter.

Dr. Uday Dhuri, Mr. Ramesh Sanil, Mrs. Sneha Harmalkar of HJS, Mr. Sanjay Sapkal, the President of Mehata Workers’ Union and a social worker, Mr. Gulabkumar of Bajarang Dal, Mr. Jitendra Kulkarni of Sreeram Sena Mr. Satu Gawas of senior citizens organization were also present on the occasion as members of the delegation. In the beginning of the meeting, the Mayor was also informed about the HJS drive against prevention of malpractices observed in celebration of Ganesha festival and a VCD on ‘Ganeshotsava, a reality and ideal’ was shown to the Mayor.
