We will take HJS guidance for ideal ‘Ganeshotsav’ ! – Mumbai Mayor

Mumbai: The Mayor of Mumbai, Mrs Shraddha Jadhav (Shiv Sena) met the representatives of Hindu Janjagruti Samiti and heard about the malpractices during the Ganeshotsav celebrations. She was also informed about the ideal celebration of the festival. She gave the assurance that “We will take the assistance and guidance of Hindu Janjagruti Samiti to celebrate future Ganeshotsav festivals in the ideal manner”

At this time, the Thane, Mumbai and Raigad District Co-ordinator, Mr Shivaji Vatkar of HJS said “The Samiti has been organizing these campaigns to create awareness for the past 5 years throughout Maharashtra. Donations should be voluntary. The Ganesh idol should be made of sand (shadu) and be coloured with organic colours. The stage should be small and decorations should be natural. There should be discipline and serenity.  The bhajans of saints, chanting and patriotic films should be played. The concept of “One Ganapati, One Village” must be practised. All the programs must get over by 10:00pm. During the immersion of Ganapati evil activities like vulgar dancing, behaving indecently with women, drinking alcohol, blasting crackers must be banned.” 

The BMC should involve the members of HJS for making the people and Ganpati Mandals aware of the ideal celebrations. At this, Mrs Jadhav replied that this year HJS will be called for all meetings. 

At this time, Mr. Vatkar asked for one more meeting with the Mayor to explain the scientific reason for immersing the Ganesh idol in running water as well as safeguarding the environment. The Mayor gave a positive response to this. Mrs Varsha Thakar and Mr Milind Poshe were also part of the group.
