No interference in Muslim Personal Law, Rajnath Singh assures Mahmood Ali

Hyderabad : Dy. CM of Telangana State, Mr. Mohammed Mahmood Ali called on Union Home Minister, Mr. Rajnath Singh and apprised him of the anxiety of the Muslims of the country about the implementation of Uniform Civil Code. He requested the Home Minister not to take any action which interferes in Muslim Personal Law. During his visit in New Delhi, Mr. Mahmood Ali briefed Mr. Rajnath Singh about the cases regarding divorce and polygamy among Muslims. He told him that Central Govt. is trying to create an atmosphere for the implementation of Uniform Civil Code. He apprised him of various meetings held in Hyderabad wherein it was asserted that Muslims cannot tolerate any change in their personal law since these are not manmade they are according to Allah (SWT) and the traditions of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).

He further told him that there are certain elements which are threatening to implement Uniform Civil Code. In India, there are people professing various religions and beliefs. It is not possible to implement Uniform Civil Code. Not only Muslims, but also the people of other religions would not accept this. However, some elements are making an attempt to blame that only Muslims are opposing Uniform Civil Code.

Mr. Mahmood Ali impressed upon Rajnath Singh that in order to maintain solidarity and harmony, Govt. should avoid amending the present laws. Judiciary should also abide by constitution and laws. It is observed objections are being made on the laws made by Parliament.

Mr. Rajnath Singh gave a clear assurance to Mr. Mahmood Ali that Govt. does not have any intention to interfere in Muslim Personal Law. He also said that Govt. is not taking any steps for the implementation of Uniform Civil Code. He advised the Muslims not to have any apprehensions.
