Remove picture of Afzal Khan’s meeting from text book of Bal Bharati : Jayant Patil, MLA

Chairman, State Legislative Council refuses permission to discuss Bal Bharati issues !

Mumbai : In the 4th standard Marathi and English text book of Bal Bharati, a picture of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Afzal Khan meeting and hugging each other is published, instead of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj slaying Afzal Khan. Action should be taken against persons responsible for such distortion of history and the wrong picture should be removed. The above demand was made by Shri. Jayant Patil, MLA- PWP on 25th July in Legislative Council’s session; but taking help of rule No. 289, Chairman Ramraje Nimbalkar refused permission to hold discussions on this topic. So, opposition members couldn’t discuss the above issue.

Shri. Jayant Patil said that in 4th standard English medium text book of Bal Bharati, 4 lessons on Shivaraya’s war strategy were removed and a picture of meeting between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Afzal Khan has been included. Hiding true historical facts about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s bravery and valour from children is a crime. It has created displeasure amongst people. Is the Bureau of printing text books trying to wipe out true history by publishing such pictures ? It is important to give information on the bravery exhibited while slaying Afzal Khan and chopping off Shaiste Khan’s fingers. It is important to have discussions on this topic in the House; but Chairman Ramraje Nimbalkar refused to grant permission for holding discussions.
