Shivaji Maharaj’s history to be included in Central Board curriculum in Maharashtra : Vinod Tawade

  • Congratulations to Education Minister Vinod Tawade for taking right decision !
  • Marathi language to be made compulsory !

Mumbai : Marathi language and history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj will be included in the Central Board’s curriculum taught in Maharashtra from first to seventh standards. A resolution will be passed to the above effect by State Legislative members in this Assembly session and will be forwarded to the Central Government, explained Education Minister Shri. Vinod Tawade on 10th March during question-answer session held in Assembly. He said, “In Central Board’s curriculum for ICSE, CBSE and IGCSE, history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has been given only in 4 lines but a condition will be stipulated for these Boards while granting NOC for their schools to teach history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj so that students would know history of Maharashtra; also teaching Marathi language will be made compulsory for such schools from 1st to 7th standards.”

Shri. Tawade said, “Nursery schools in Mumbai city and suburbs are charging very high fees and complaints have been received from parents about excess money taken from them; but pre-primary schools do not fall under the purview of Government.” The then Education Minister Fauzia Khan had submitted a report to the State Government on this issue. A question was raised by advocate Yashomati Thakur, Amin Patel etc. during Assembly session on devising Government policy for admission in nursery schools in Maharashtra when Shri. Tawade made the above comment.

Maharashtra Govt. should promptly implement its commendable decision of including history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Central Baord’s curriculums ! – HJS

Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has congratulated the decision of the State Government announced by State Education Minister Shri. Vinod Tawade on 11th March about teaching history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to be mandatory, in curriculum of Central Board schools. Shri. Sunil Ghanavat, the State Coordinator of HJS has stated in a press release that the Government should now follow up for prompt implementation of its decision.

It has also been stated in the press release that 60 pages were devoted for teaching history about Mughal invaders whereas history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has been given only in 6 lines. HJS has staged many agitations all over Maharashtra on this issue in past 8 years. After such agitation, the then Congress Government in Goa changed curriculum in the year 2010; however, the then Congress Government in Maharashtra ignored HJS demands. HJS once again submitted representation on the same as soon as BJP- Shiv Sena coalition Government took over reins. Shri. Vinodji Tawade promised HJS to take action on the representation and he has fulfilled his promise. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is an ideal king not only for Maharashtra but for the whole world. HJS had made few more demands as given below and expect compliance on the same.

Other demands made by HJS with State Government

1. History of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj should be taught not only in Maharashtra but all over the country.

2. Maharashtra Government should take initiative in changing English text book of 6th standard in Telangana State titled ‘Our World Through English’ in which distorted history is being taught to children. In a lesson in this book titled ‘The Last Casket’, it is shown that a person named John had saved Chhatrapati Shivaraya and John was as brave as Chhatrapati; only to glorify Christians.

3.The Government should take action against many books through which distorted history is being taught in the name of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
