Pune: Problems in Ganesh Idol Immersion due to the dirty Mutha river

Bhadrapat Shukla Ekadashi, Kaliyug Varsha 5111

Pune (Maharashtra): Many Ganesh devotees expressed their anger due to the inactiveness of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). (PMC builds artificial water tanks for Idol immersion, saying that it is due to pollution. But at the same time PMC ignores the cleanliness of Mutha river. Now Ganesh devotees should not only express anger against PMC, but they must strongly protest against PMC’s inactiveness and ask for an explanation of such inactiveness to the Local Corporators & administration ! – Editor SP)

As per the science of Hindu Dharma, Idol Immersion should be done in a natural source of water which is flowing continuously. But Ganesh devotees have to immerse Ganesh Idols in Artificial tanks due to polluted water in the River. (Can Local Corporators & Administration dare to show such inactiveness at the time of Muslim festivals ? – Editor SP) Many Ganesh devotees expressed this when they came here for Immersion on the 5th day of the Ganesh Festival.

PMC came up with the idea of artificial water tanks saying that the reason was due to pollution. PMC’s ‘Air Quality Management Cell’ and famous ‘Srushti Eco Research Institute’ has clearly mentioned in their reports that Ganesh Idol Immersion does not cause any pollution in the river. Even after getting such reports, PMC has built artificial water tanks for Ganesh Idol Immersion.

At other times, pollution of the river continues due to chemicals, industrial discharges & other type of sewage. But the PMC ignores all these sources of pollution and only concentrates on Ganesh Idol Immersion. This concern was expressed by many Ganesh devotees while speaking with our reporter.

Following are the comments expressed by Ganesh devotees regarding the anti-Hindu approach of Pune Municipal Corporation:

1.    Mr. Anant Kane, Prabhat Road, Pune: Once I immersed my Ganesh Idol in an artificial water tank, but at the same time I saw that PMC employees were standing on Ganesh Idol that I had only just immersed. Hence now it is my strong opinion that Idol immersion must be done in flowing water only.

2.    Mr. Aniruddha Mhaiskar, Kothrud: I am doubtful about the arrangement for carrying Ganesh Idols. I think the Idols are not handled properly. So I immersed the Ganesh Idol in the river only. It is the duty of the PMC to clean the river.

3.    Mr. Prashant Marathe, Kothrud: Once I immersed a Ganesh Idol in an artificial water tank & after that I saw that other people stood on that Idol when they immerse their Idols in those water tanks. This is not right. My sentiments get hurt due to this. I also think that the Ganesh Idol immersion does not cause any pollution of the river.

4.    Mr. Anil Chitodkar, Model Colony: River water is very polluted and the PMC should clean it. Also my opinion is that Idol Immersion does not contribute to Water Pollution.
