Panvel (Maharashtra): Lokmanya Tilak started the practice of celebrating the Sree Ganesha Festival in a collective manner, before the country got independence, with the purpose of

·         Uniting Hindus,

·         For the protection of the Nation,

·         To oppose western culture and

·         To create awareness among people towards their Dharma.

But the present manner of celebrating the festival has not only introduced improper practices but has caused a grave loss of sanctity in the festival.

Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) organized a rally in Khanda Colony to appeal to the Ganesha-devotees to celebrate the festival as prescribed in Science so as to derive maximum spiritual benefit. The rally started from Shivaji Chowk in Khanda Colony after performing ‘puja’ of the ‘Dharma-dhvaj’ by Natha Maharaj. The rally ended at Shivaji Chowk later when it got converted into a gathering.

It is necessary to stop such malpractices to acquire the blessings of Lord Ganesha.”
