Mumbai : It is an offence under clause 37 (F) and 135 of Mumbai Police Act, to take and publish in the newspapers, pictures of Sree Ganesha idols that float back on the shore after immersion. Even then Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and dainik ‘Loksatta’, a daily Marathi newspaper has published a picture, in its issue dated 8th September, of 3-headed idol of Sree Ganesha after immersion. In this picture, both the hands of the idol are broken and one can see remnant flowers offered to the Lord and surrounding sea. At the side of this picture, there are 3 lines that say, “This is not the right way of immersion. We can change this picture. Please insist for small idols made up of clay and painted with natural clolours.” Below this, name and email-id of MPCB has been published and an appeal has been made by MPCB to listen to a program called ‘Jagar Paryavaranacha’ to be broadcast on radio on 11th September. Earlier, in some cases, Dr. D. B. Marg police station has taken action against those persons for taking photographs of such idols.
On one hand, The Government is making laws and appealing to people against taking pictures of broken remnants of Sree Ganesha idols after immersion and on the other hand, it is publicly going against its laws. Many readers have called up office of ‘Dainik Sanatan Prabhat’ to protest. It is now to be seen whether the Government will take note and take action against the concerned or going to cover up for them.
