Immersion of Ganesha idols does not cause pollution!

Mumbai : As Ganesha festival approaches, environmentalists who are indifferent throughout the whole year,  suddenly feel concerned about water pollution and start fussing over the issue. They even take the Government to task and try to equate Ganesha festival with pollution. The outcry of the so-called environmentalists over water pollution during Ganesha festival has been proved wrong by the data published by the Government. As a matter of fact, it has been found that pollution is reduced to a certain extent due to immersion of idols which is nothing but a miracle. Sree Ganesha is controller of the 8 directions and is the deity that reduces the effect of ‘Raja and Tama’ components coming from these 8 directions. Festival celebrated to worship such deity, in fact, reduces pollution and the so-called environmentalists should take a note of it before making unrighteous statements under the guise of pollution.

Shri. Amit Nargolkar, Environment officer, of ‘Srushti Eco Research Institute’, Shri. Jayesh Vartak, a scientist formerly working with Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), Dr. Vishwambhar Chaudhary, the president of ‘Oasis Environmental Consultants’, Pune and Shri. Ajay Vaishampayan, an activists fighting against water pollution have proved, based on the observations, that immersion of idols DO NOT cause water pollution. The above information was given by Shri. Abhay Vartak, spokesperson of Sanatan Sanstha in a press conference held at the Press Club. Shri. Suresh Sawant of the Sanstha was also present. Shri. Vartak said further that it has been observed that the quality of water from lakes, rivers etc. checked before immersion and after immersion has indicated that there was not much change in the quality of water.

According to the above experts, Plaster of Paris (PoP), which is made of Calcium Sulphet, is neither acidic nor alkaline but is neutral. So even if it gets dissolved in water, no harmful reaction takes place with water. Once it gets dissolved in water, it loses its firmness and stickiness and turns into mud. It cannot, therefore, block streams in the river bed. In fact, it is used in the process of purification of water, explained Shri. Vartak.  Talking about pollution caused due to factories, Shri. Vartak said that out of the total factories in the country, more than 53,000 factories i.e. 22%, are in Maharashtra. Out of these factories, 8000 factories release very strong polluted water in rivers and sea, 8000 factories leave effluents that are of medium strength and rest are releasing less polluted water. In this manner, more than about 800000 cubic meters of effluents are released in rivers and sea every day. This often causes death of big fishes and other aquatic animals as also it turns rivers into gutters. We never find environmentalists bothered about such pollution which is taking place throughout the year. Even MPCB does not take action in this regard. But everyone talks about non-existing pollution caused due to immersion of idols during Ganesha festival; nor anyone talks about pollution occurring due to use of thermo coal and plastic during ‘Tabut’ and ‘Christmas’ festivals celebrated by followers of other religions. There is always criticism on festivals of Hindus. One of such critics viz. Maharashtra Andha-shraddha Nirmulan Samiti (MANS) has made an appeal to donate Sree Ganesha idols. Sanatan Sanstha hereby makes a humble request to all to strongly oppose this anti-Dharma campaign of MANS and immerse idols of Sree Ganesha in flowing water as per the science.
