Warakari should not become agitators – Deputy CM

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Warakari have staged ‘squatting’ agitation at Vakhari village in Solapur district against the Maharashtra eradication of Black Magic and Evil and Aghori Practices Bill 2005. They have halted further journey. The Government has no intention of hurting anyone’s religious sentiments; therefore, Warakari should remain Warakari and not agitators. The above advice was given by Shri. R. R. Patil, the Dy. Chief Minister in Legislative Council. [LC]

Shri. Pandurang Fudkar, the Opposition leader in LC started discussions on the point as per Rule 260 and informed about the agitations by Warakari. He informed that as Warakari have started ‘squatting’ agitation, it is not certain whether they would be able to reach Pandharpur in time and the tradition started by saints in Maharashtra is likely to be broken.

On learning on the above matter, Shri. R R Patil, the Dy. CM said that he was sending message to Warakari through Shri. Fundkar and tried to advice Warakari; but Shri. Diwakar Raote, Shiv Sena MLA condemned the advice given by Shri. Patil and demanded to remove his statement from the official records. On this, Shri. Fundkar demanded to withdraw the controversial Act. Later, Shri. Patil informed the House that Warakari had since carried on with their ‘palakhis’ and journey on intervention of Shri. Vijaysinh Mohite-Patil, guardian minister of Solapur.

(Rather than giving such free advice, why does the Dy. Chief Minster not withdraw the ant-Hindu Act? – Editor)
