Kathmandu, Nepal – With the start of Sawan according to the Nepali calendar, Shiva devotees Pindeshwar and Baba Baidyanath Dham had begun preparations for the Bolbam yatra. Many devotees come every year from Nepal to offer water at the Baba Baidyanath Dham temple in Deoghar. Preparations for the same were under way when a dispute broke out between two communities near the India-Nepal border in Kaptanganj of Sunsari district over religious flags and playing of DJ, after which violence erupted.
In the police firing during this communal violence, one Hindu youth lost his life, while several people including policemen were injured in the violence. Following the incident, the administration has imposed an indefinite ban in some areas.

According to the police, on the night of 26 July, Hindu and Muslim communities had organised separate religious programmes in the Kaptanganj area of Devganj Rural Municipality. At that time a dispute arose between the two sides over the use of loudspeakers and the hoisting of religious flags, which later turned into a violent clash.
In an attempt to control the situation, the security forces opened fire, in which 24-year-old Om Prakash Mehta lost his life.
Sunsari district is located in the south-eastern part of Nepal and shares a border with the Indian state of Bihar. This region is regarded as an important route for trade and transport between the two countries.
