Embezzling offerings from temple donation boxes is a grave sin; management must rest solely with devotees – Hindu Janajagruti Samiti

Ayodhya – The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has strongly condemned the embezzlement of offerings from the donation box of the Shri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The Samiti has demanded swift government intervention, a thorough investigation, and the strictest possible action against those responsible to bring the truth to light.

Shri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya is not merely a place of worship but a symbol of the centuries-long sacrifices, prolonged struggle, and unwavering faith of crores of Hindus across the world. Embezzling offerings from the temple’s donation box is a grave sin, and Prabhu Shri Ram will certainly ensure that those responsible face the consequences of their deeds. However, the government must swiftly investigate the matter to identify those responsible, bring the truth before the public, and take the strictest possible action against the guilty, demanded the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti.
The Samiti reiterated that it has repeatedly demanded that every temple management committee should consist exclusively of devotees of the Deity. Since a devotee is a worshipper of God, such a person cannot even dream of misappropriating the Deity’s funds. If temples are to be truly revitalised, their administration must be entrusted only to such devotees. The Samiti also reaffirmed its consistent opposition to any attempt by the government to use such incidents as a pretext for the takeover or nationalisation of temples.
“How can government officials who are themselves corrupt and part of a deeply entrenched corrupt administrative system be expected to prevent corruption in temple committees?” questioned Shri Ramesh Shinde, National Spokesperson of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti.
Shri. Shinde further asserted that there should be no interference by a secular government in religious institutions. He added that there are numerous examples across the country where corruption involving temple funds has increased after temples were brought under government control. Temple administration should instead be entrusted to genuine devotees of God who regard managing a temple as an act of service to the Deity, he stated.
