Nasha Virodhi Sangharsh Abhiyan protest in Dadar to permanently ban Sunburn Festival

Register a case of culpable homicide against ‘Sunburn’ and the administration regarding the death of a youth at the Worli music concert!

Youth, patriotic citizens, and representatives of various devout Hindu organisations participating in the protest.

Mumbai, Maharashtra: From the incident at Goregaon’s NESCO music concert where two youths died due to excessive drug consumption, to the controversial Sunburn Festival in Sewri, the police administration’s inexcusable negligence has now led to another innocent youth losing his life at the high-profile ‘Outworld’ music concert in Worli. The death of a youth and a young woman falling unconscious at the ‘NSCI’ Dome in Worli reflects the horrifying reality of the growing drug network in the state. Information is surfacing that the main organisers of both the Sewri and Worli events are the organisers of the ‘Sunburn Festival’ and their local associates, ‘Star Stage Events’ and ‘E Venture X’.

A case of culpable homicide must be immediately registered against those responsible for this death in Worli, the Sunburn organisers, and the corrupt administration that deliberately protects them. Furthermore, a permanent ban must be imposed on the ‘Sunburn Festival’ in Maharashtra. This demand was made by Smt. Dhanashree Kelshikar on behalf of the ‘Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign’ (Nasha Virodhi Sangharsh Abhiyan). To this end, a public protest was held outside Dadar Railway Station on 11 June. Large numbers of youth, patriotic citizens, and representatives of various Hindutva organisations were present at this protest.

The police had initially denied permission for this Worli music concert citing law and order concerns; however, if permission was granted later due to high-level pressure, it is a very serious matter. Previously, local residents faced immense mental distress due to the Sunburn Festival held in Sewri, and the younger generation took to the streets in strong protest; yet, the administration took no solid action and instead protected these controversial events. Given the dark history of numerous youth deaths due to drug overdoses at Goa’s ‘Sunburn Festival’, and despite years of written objections submitted to the administration by various organisations including the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, the police and administration must now answer why these ‘death parties’ were deliberately permitted in Goregaon and Worli just for the sake of money, said Smt. Dhanashree Kelshikar while addressing the protest.

In the holy and cultured land of Maharashtra belonging to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, we will never allow the attempt to push the younger generation into the abyss of addiction and turn the state into ‘Udta Maharashtra’ (on the lines of Punjab) through the power of money. The dignitaries and patriotic citizens present at the protest demanded that the administration answer how it will compensate parents for the irreparable loss of their young children caused by this irresponsible, corrupt, and insensitive attitude.

Despite the ‘NSCI’ Dome in Worli being a property of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation, essentially government property, how are such lethal parties that ruin the younger generation allowed to be organised there? Therefore, an immediate answer is required regarding what strict action the government will take against the contractors to whom the Corporation has leased this dome and the related management. Our struggle will not stop until a case of culpable homicide is registered against ‘Sunburn’, whose hands are stained with the blood of the youth, and the guilty administrative officers. The glorification of Western drug culture and the display of obscene parties in the land of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj must be stopped immediately at the government level, stated the press release issued by the ‘Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign’.
