CM assures action on proposed ‘Anti–love jihad Law’

Mumbai – The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has formally submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, demanding that the film ‘The Kerala Story 2’ be made tax-free across Maharashtra.

In its representation, the Samiti stated that ‘The Kerala Story 2’ is not merely a cinematic production but a vital awareness campaign. The Samiti highlighted that the film exposes the deception faced by young Hindu girls and sheds light on the hidden threats behind such operations. It said the move would help ensure the safety of women and protect young girls from such threats.
The delegation, led by Shri. Sunil Ghanwat (HJS State Organiser for Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh) and Shri. Arvind Pansare, emphasised that the film must be made tax-free immediately to protect women and to save young girls from the hidden assaults of love jihad.
They further noted that ‘The Kerala Story 1’ had previously been granted tax-free status. A similar exemption for the sequel would lower ticket prices, enabling parents and daughters from middle-class and poor families to watch the film and stay vigilant. Furthermore, the HJS demanded that the government should not stop at Cabinet approval but must immediately pass the ‘Anti-love jihad Law’ in both the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council.
CM Fadnavis responds
Addressing the technicalities of the demand, CM Fadnavis stated, “Currently, a separate ‘Entertainment Tax’ does not exist in Maharashtra; instead, ‘State GST’ (SGST) is in effect. When a film is made tax-free, the government has to provide a reimbursement for this amount.”
Regarding the ‘Anti-love jihad Law’, the Chief Minister assured the delegation that he is personally overseeing its progression and is taking decisive steps to ensure its swift implementation.
