Idols of Shri Ram unearthed during mosque excavation in Sagar

Repeated incidents like this suggest that many mosques in Bharat were constructed after demolishing existing temples. Therefore, the Central Government should now appoint a committee to investigate such sites, identify the Hindu temples that were historically demolished, and work towards their reconstruction. – Editor

Sagar (Madhya Pradesh): Excavation work for the construction of a mosque’s boundary wall in Papred village, Banda tehsil, led to the discovery of idols of Shri Ram buried beneath the ground. The news spread rapidly, prompting villagers to gather at the site, and begin ritualistic worship of the idols. One of the statues found is reported to be damaged.

Following the discovery, representatives of Hindu organisations demanded that the location be recognised as a former temple site and that a Hindu temple be rebuilt there. They claimed that an earlier temple had been demolished to construct the existing mosque. Members of the Muslim community also arrived at the location, creating a tense situation due to conflicting claims over the site’s history.

Police and administrative officials soon reached the spot and have initiated dialogue with both groups to maintain order and prevent the situation from escalating further.
