Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomes move

Guwahati (Assam) — RSS official Sunil Ambekar recently stated that NCERT has made changes in Assam’s history textbooks, removing the label “Great” previously used before the names of Mughal ruler Akbar and Mysore’s Tipu Sultan. Ambekar asserted that while multiple changes have reportedly been introduced, no historical figure has been removed from the text, as it remains important for future generations to understand both the misdeeds and impacts of past rulers.
Responding to these statements, Assam Chief Minister Shri. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that if NCERT has indeed taken this step, he considers it appropriate and extends his appreciation. The Chief Minister added that he has not personally reviewed the revised content but supports the direction of such a correction, if confirmed.
