Siddaramaiah Govt set to repeal Anti Cow-slaughter and Anti Conversion Laws

Assurance given by Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah to a delegation from the Minority Wing.

This clearly shows why the Congress Government is compared to a Pakistani regime! Have the Hindus of Karnataka realised yet that by voting such a government to power, they have only brought harm upon themselves? – Editor

Mangaluru (Karnataka) – Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has assured a delegation from the Minority Wing of the Dakshina Kannada District Congress that, in the upcoming Belagavi Assembly session, the Government will begin the process to repeal the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2021, and the Karnataka Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Act, 2021. Both these laws were enacted by the previous BJP Government.

The assurance came after the delegation met the Chief Minister at his official residence ‘Kaveri’. The visit followed recent incidents in Dakshina Kannada relating to cattle transportation. The Minority Wing leaders and members of the Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee submitted a memorandum requesting the withdrawal of the two laws.

The memorandum noted that the Congress party had promised in its 2023 Assembly election manifesto that these laws would be repealed within one year of coming to power. The delegation urged the Chief Minister to honour this commitment by initiating action during the forthcoming Belagavi session.

In the memorandum, the delegation stated that the Cattle slaughter prohibition Law had allegedly created an atmosphere of fear in Dakshina Kannada, citing incidents of police firing and confiscation of property of those accused of cattle smuggling. They also claimed that farmers were facing difficulty in selling their cattle. The memorandum claimed that, in the name of the Karnataka Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Act, RSS-affiliated groups were targeting minorities, and argued that such a restriction on religious conversion contradicted constitutional rights.
