Their plan was to contaminate the sacred prasad offered to devotees with the deadly poison ‘ricin’, with the intention of killing people on a large scale. The ATS suspects that more individuals may be part of this dangerous network.

Ricin plot co-ordinated from Afghanistan
The arrested terrorists were directly in touch with their handler ‘Abu Khadija’ based in Afghanistan. He had provided them step-by-step guidance over the phone on preparing ricin and had sent photographs and videos of the target temples for recce, including the Hanuman Setu Temple in Lucknow, Jagannath Temple in Ahmedabad, and key temples in Delhi.
Ricin prepared as a ‘biological weapon’
Ricin, derived from castor seeds, is an extremely lethal substance. Experts state that even 1 milligram is enough to kill a human being. Ricin stock was recovered from the terrorists at the time of arrest. The ATS is treating it as a biological weapon, and the seized sample has been sent to a forensic laboratory for detailed analysis.
Jihadis trained to poison temple prasad
The terrorists also revealed that they had undergone online training on mixing ricin into temple prasad in a way that would not be detected. Their handler had ordered them to attack Hindu religious places to spread fear, create chaos, and divide society.
Network spanning multiple States
The ATS investigation indicates that the attack was being planned to coincide with a major festival or fair when footfall at temples would be high. Dr. Mohiuddin was the key figure in preparing ricin due to his chemical expertise. Sohail and Azad had links with a madrasa in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh and were connected to the Khorasan module. The Uttar Pradesh ATS team is currently in Gujarat to trace the wider network linked to them.
Editor’s Perspective :
- After every terror attack in the country, the so‑called secular parties and self‑styled rationalists rush to declare that ‘terrorism has no religion’. Yet, time and again, with the involvement of jihadis in every terror attack, it has been proved that ‘it does have a religion’.
- For years, the so‑called secularists have tried to justify these terrorists by claiming that they are uneducated or marginalised. However, the involvement of a doctor in this conspiracy proves once again that such destructive mindset is driven by jihadi ideology, not by lack of education or opportunity.
- For decades, jihadis have targeted Hindus across the country, carrying out organised attacks meant to spread fear in society. It is now time for us to deal with this jihadi-mindset with an iron fist and ensure exemplary punishment for all terrorists involved so that it will serve as a clear deterrent to all such jihadis.
