Alandi (Pune) : At a major congregation in Alandi, the 19th Warkari Maha-adhiveshan passed several key resolutions, including a demand to declare all pilgrimage sites in Maharashtra alcohol and meat-free zones, and to enact a strict law prohibiting religious conversions within temple premises.

Held under the theme ‘Wari of Alandi, for the Protection of Nation and Dharma’, the convention drew more than a thousand Warkari devotees from across Maharashtra.

Jointly organised by the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, Rashtriya Warkari Parishad, and other organisations at the Sadguru Shri Gangagiri Maharaj Math on the occasion of Kartik Vadya Ekadashi, the convention focused on ‘attacks on the places of faith, deities, and saints of the Warkari tradition’.

Addressing the convention, H.H. Ramgiri Maharaj warned against the activities of Christian missionaries, alleging that tribal communities were being converted through misinterpretations of episodes from the Ramayana. H.B.P. Janardan Maharaj Mete stated that conversions were taking place in Alandi under the guise of providing health and education services and emphasised the need to curb such activities.

Mr Sunil Ghanvat, State Organiser of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, demanded the immediate dissolution of the Maharashtra Government’s ‘Committee for Awareness and Promotion of the Anti-Witchcraft Act’, alleging that the committee attacks Hindu deities and Dharma instead of promoting awareness. He further stated that atheists and individuals with ‘Urban Naxal’ ideologies were misleading devotees during the Pandharpur Wari and insisted that this must be stopped. He called upon all saints to unite and meet government representatives during the upcoming winter session in Nagpur to press for the fulfilment of promises given to the Warkari community.

Ms Kranti Petkar of the Ranragini Shakha highlighted the issue of ‘Love Jihad’ and reiterated the demand for legislation to prevent it.

H.B.P. Akshay Maharaj Bhosale assured that efforts to make pilgrimage sites free of alcohol and meat, and to purify the Indrayani river, would be taken up strongly with the government.

Key Resolutions Passed

  • Declare all pilgrimage sites in Maharashtra alcohol- and meat-free.
  • Enact an Anti-Love Jihad Law for the protection of Hindu girls.
  • Repeal the Waqf Act, alleging misuse to seize Hindu temples and lands.
  • Implement permanent measures to keep the Indrayani and Chandrabhaga rivers pollution-free.
  • Strictly enforce the cow slaughter prohibition law in Maharashtra.
  • Prevent the ideological influence of atheists and ‘Urban Naxals’ during the Pandharpur Wari.
