Bengaluru – The arrest of Vikrama TV Editor Mahesh Vikram Hegde for expressing his opinion on incidents that took place in the state through the social media platform Facebook is a direct violation of Article 19(1)(a) of the Indian Constitution – the right to freedom of speech and expression.
Similarly, the preventive arrest of Rashtra Rakshana Pade Founder-President Puneeth Kerehalli, on the pretext that he might deliver a “hate speech” while participating in the Maddur Ganeshotsav procession, is unlawful. Preventive detention under Section 151 of the CrPC applies only to avert a serious crime. In this case, no such crime has been proven. Therefore, this arrest is unconstitutional.

Such actions expose the government’s biased stance. Instead of ensuring the peaceful celebration of Ganeshotsav, the government has targeted and arrested Hindu leaders, thereby violating the religious rights and freedom of expression of Hindus. The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti strongly condemns this unjust arrest and makes the following demands to the government:
1. The arrests of Mahesh Vikram Hegde and Puneeth Kerehalli must be immediately revoked.
2. In the future, no Hindu leader or religious program should be targeted on the basis of political or religious bias.
3. The government must remain committed to protecting constitutional rights and uphold law and order in the state on the basis of equality.

Arrested 36 times during Congress rule in Karnataka
Bengaluru (Karnataka) – Bengaluru Police have registered a case and arrested ardent Hindu nationalist and cow vigilante Punit Kerehalli. Kerehalli was on his way to Muddur when the police arrested him. He was presented before the Sessions Court and asked to sign an affidavit saying, ‘ will not take part in any illegal activity, will not cause any hindrance to peace and communal harmony’. He refused to sign it and hence he was sent to judicial custody.
Kerehalli in his post on social media has said, this my 36th arrest since Karnataka has come under Congress rule. Arresting without giving any notice is dangerous for Democracy.
🚨 Puneet Kerehalli, who has been fighting for cow protection & Hindu temples, has been arrested by Bengaluru Police under the Congress govt in the name of “precautionary action.”
