Mangalore: Mustafa arrested for sexual assault on minor

Mangalore : An incident of sexual assault has occurred at Kasbe Bengre at a time while the country is rejoicing during the Eid celebrations. A father of two children is said to have sexually assaulted a minor girl in his neighborhood and the police have arrested the accused based on the complaint of the girl.

Mohammed Mustafa (38), a resident of Kasba Bengre is the accused in the incident. He is said to have illegally entered a house belonging of person from his community on Sunday July 27 at about midnight and allegedly sexually assaulted a sixteen-year-old girl. The mother of the girl woke up hearing the screams of the girl but the suspect fled the scene.
 
It is said that while the mother and daughter were asleep, at around 3 am, Mustafa came again and called the girl. The mother of the girl got up and tried to catch him. The suspect pushed her and is said to have challenged that he would not leave the girl without raping her and threatened to kill them if they complained to the police. He then fled the spot.
 
The mother and daughter got scared by the threats and did not complain to the police. However, when they informed the matter to their neighbours on Monday, they encouraged them to register a complaint in the Panambur police station.
 
The girl is said to be a student of 9th standard. The wife of the accused is reportedly staying separately with their two children.
 
Panambur police station sub-inspector Bharathi arrested the accused on Monday itself. A case of sexual harassment and child sexual abuse is registered against the accused.
 
The accused Mohammed Mustafa is said to be a notorious criminal involved in ganja trade. There are criminal cases against him in the Panambur police station and the coast guard police. It is said that he was in prison for three years for peddling ganja and was released recently. He was also involved in cases causing social unrest in Kasba Bengre.
