Surajya Abhiyan raises hygiene concern in MSRTC authorised hotel in public interest

Surajya Abhiyan calls for immediate action to address substandard hygiene

Concerns have been raised regarding the quality of meals provided by a hotel authorised by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) as a designated halt. Passengers travelling on the Ahmadnagar – Pune route have consistently reported subpar hygiene standards and the poor quality of meals served in Hotel Viraj Garden.

Despite being authorised by MSRTC, complaints regarding the hygiene standards at Hotel Viraj Garden have been on the rise. Unhygienic meals pose a significant risk to the health and safety of passengers, especially during long bus journeys. These concerns are reflected by the poor ratings on various websites.

Surajya Abhiyan, a Hindu Janajagruti Samiti campaign, known for its advocacy on various social issues, has stepped in to address this pressing concern. Surajya Abhiyas has submitted a memorandum to the Maharashtra Chief Minister and the MSRTC officials highlighting the seriousness of this issue and urging immediate action.

Surajya Abhiyan urges the MSRTC administration to take immediate action on several key points:

  1. Investigation and Sanctions: To conduct a thorough investigation into the operations of Hotel Viraj Garden and all other such MSRTC authorized hotels to identify the root cause of the hygiene lapses. If found guilty, appropriate sanctions should be imposed, including revoking their authorisation as designated halts.
  2. Quality Control Measures: Implementation of stringent quality control measures for all authorised hotels and vendors providing meals on MSRTC bus routes. This should include regular inspections, hygiene audits, and compliance checks to ensure that only establishments meeting the highest standards are allowed to operate as designated halts.
  3. Transparent Reporting System: Establishment of a transparent reporting system where passengers can easily lodge complaints using WhatsApp / message / helpline number regarding the quality of meals at MSRTC halts. This should be followed by timely intervention and corrective action by the authorities.
  4. Public Awareness Campaign: Launching of a public awareness campaign to educate passengers about their rights regarding food safety standards. Clear guidelines must be provided on how to identify and report any instances of substandard meals.

Surajya Abhiyan urges the MSRTC administration to address this issue urgently and with the seriousness it deserves. The health and well-being of passengers should always be the top priority, and immediate steps must be taken to rectify the situation and prevent any further instances of negligence.

This is just the case with one state. If you notice similar lapses in your state, raise the issue with the concerned authorities and let us know too (via our X handle @SurajyaCampaign). Together, we can transform this Swarajya into Surajya!
