Broken Shiva linga and remains of human settlement of 13th century discovered in Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar : Broken Shiva-linga and the remains of a settlement which dates back to the 13th century have been discovered inside a jungle of Papum Pare district in Arunachal Pradesh. Officials of the archaeological department have confirmed it in Itanagar, the capital city of Arunachal Pradesh.

In its excavation, the archaeological survey of India found that the settlement covered more than 20 acres has been found in the jungles of Ramghat under the Tarasso circle. During an excavation by the archaeology department of the state directorate of research, found centuries back evidence of Civilisation.

A Huge rampart made of stone blocks, length of which is almost 226 meters, burnt bricks and stone boulders along with a gate was found there.

Some of the stone blocks discovered have symbols like that of combined bows and arrows and tridents, while varied shapes and sizes of stone blocks and around 31 burnt bricks believed to have been used in the fortification have been discovered so far.

Besides, the findings also include a broken Shiva-linga, sealing ball and potsherds, while the field investigation also revealed the ancient human habitation made of the stone piles.

The team also conducted archaeological exploration in and around Vyas Kund in Ramghat and the remains of a stone staircase were also discovered.

The excavation was carried out by the archaeology team of the state research department led by archaeologist Pura Koji and assistant Tadu Ringku.

A path made of bricks and a flake tool which could belong to the Palaeolithic era were also found there.
