All 4 Shankaracharyas will attend Kumbh Mela on request by U.P. Government !

Prayagaraj (UP) : Due to rejection of demand to establish Shankar Chatushpath, Shankaracharyas of four Pithas had declared their decision to abstain from Kumbh Mela. As a result, none of the Shankaracharyas was present during first Holy bath held on Makar Sankranti. This unfortunate incident was the first of its kind. Many people were disappointed by it. The reaction of this incident was noticed in Kumbh city, and Heads of Akhadas and Saints-Sages are seriously discussing this subject. In view of these developments, Uttar Pradesh State Government met Shankaracharyas of four Pithas and requested them to participate in Kumbh Mela. Acceding to the request of the government, Shankaracharyas of four Pithas will now attend Kumbh Mela. Ashrams for them have also been erected in Kumbh city.

1. A schedule of programmes of Shankaracharya Swami Nishchalanand Saraswati of Govardhanpith, Puri has been finalised. He will attend Kumbh city on 29th January. Ashram of Shankaracharya Swami Nishchalanand Saraswati has been erected near river Ganga on Sangam Marg.

2. Ashram of Shankaracharya Swami Swarupanand Saraswati of Jyotishpith and Dwarakapith has been erected on Kali Marg.

3. Ashram of Shankaracharya Swami Bharatitirth Maharaj of Shrungeri Pith has been erected near above Ashram.

4. A delegation of the government met Swami Avimukteshwaranand on 19th January and made a request to Him. Later, to request Shankaracharyas of the rest of Pithas, the delegation of government proceeded towards the respective Pithas. Due to exhortation of the government, all four Shankaracharyas have decided to remain present in Kumbh Mela.
