Various Hindu organisations in the State condemned the Devaswom Ordinance which was approved by Governor RL Bhatia on Sunday. The Hindu Aikya Vedi and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad will observe Black Day on Monday protesting against the Ordinance. The Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam also criticised the Government move in harsh words.

Hindu Aikya Vedi leader Kummanam Rajasekharan termed the Ordinance as an encroachment on religious faith by the Government. He said the Government did not even care to listen to the demands of the Hindus on the matter. "More than 70 Hindu orgainsations had met last week to request the Governor not to give assent to the Ordinance. This demand has not been honoured. This is nothing but a proclamation of temple rights violation," Rajasekharan said.

Protesting against the Ordinance, the Aikya Vedi would observe Black Day on Monday with demonstrations and other protest programmes all over the State, Rajasekharan said. The VHP also is observing Monday as Black Day.

SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan warned the Government against any effort to sabotage reservation in Devaswom board appointments. He said the Government had committed a wrong act with the Ordinance.

"The temples of Kerala were developed with the resources from Hindus alone and therefore they have the right of these temples. So, we had asked the Government to discuss with the Hindu organizations before deciding on any legislation. The Government has not honoured this, and instead it resorted to a unilateral decision," he said.
