Panaji : This year, people using Shri Ganesh idols made of plaster of paris (PoP), may also be detained in jail. The State Environment Minister Neelesh Kabral talked to reporters on 18th August 2021 when he said that there is a ban on the sale and use of Shri Ganesh idols made with PoP. Sellers of such idols and even their users will be heavily fined and can even be sent to jail if required. This action will be mainly taken by Goa Pollution Control Board, with the assistance of the District Collector, Dy District Collector and Police. Pollution is caused due to PoP since it doesn’t dissolve in water.

For many years, Goa Government has been trying to encourage the use of Shri Ganesh idols made of eco-friendly clay by imposing a ban on the sale of Shri Ganesh idols made of PoP; but people seem to prefer PoP Shri Ganesh idols because they are cheap and look neat and good.
