Update : This news is 2 years old news. Today, on 17 November 2012, Shiv Sena Chief Balasaheb Thackeray passed away.

Mumbai (Maharashtra) : When the pollution rules are broken at every step; how can the strong voice of a Marathi man raised on ‘Shiv-teertha’ be treated as noise pollution?,’ was the question asked by enraged Shiv Sena Chief Mr. Balasaheb Thackeray besides stating that in areas like Bhendi Bazar, Behrampada etc. hooters fitted on mosques are sounded from morning. Action should, therefore, be taken against these ‘hooters’ also, demanded the Shiv Sena Chief. A case has been registered against Shiv Sena leaders for infringing Court’s order during the gathering held at Shivaji Park ground on the day of ‘Dassera’. The Court had fixed a limit of 50 decibels for this gathering organized by Shiv Sena; but the limit was crossed and the decibels were raised to 94. In this background, the above criticizing views of the Shiv Sena Chief have been published in the Editorial of ‘Dainik Saamna’, the mouth-piece of Shiv Sena.

Mr. Thackeray has said, “We have so far suffered for carrying out activities in the interest of Maharashtra and the Marathi populace. This is one more addition to our offences. If caring for Marathi population, to raise voice for their rights is going to be treated as an offence, we do not mind committing it again and again. We accept that there could be difference in ideologies in politics; but imposing ban on the meetings of opposition is not acceptable. In a city like Mumbai, does the noise pollution take place only at ‘Shiv-teertha’? It is really unfortunate that the so-called people advocating against pollution, do nothing about the noise pollution taking place every day by way of sounding of hooters on mosques since morning although it disturbs sleep or children in their study, old, sick persons etc.; therefore, action should taken even against them. Why such pretentious advocates do not ever feel like taking action against the hooters or file cases against them? The voice of a Marathi person has already been suppressed in Mumbai, the noise of non-Maharashtrians has gone up beyond 500 decibels and hooters of infiltrators from Bangla Desh has crossed all limits. Why these deaf advocates do not hear the hooters. We also know the law and nobody need try to teach the same to us.”
