Drunkards joining the Ganesha-immersion procession to be strictly dealt with – Police Commissioner, Amaravati

Amaravati (Maharashtra): The extent of various malpractices and perverted acts taking place during the Ganeshotsava processions are on the rise. People get benefit from a festival only when it is celebrated as per Dharma-shastra. A representation was submitted by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) at Amaravati Police Station demanding stringent action against the drunkards joining the immersion procession. Amaravati Police Commissioner Amiteshkumar gave an assurance that severe action would be taken against those who join immersion procession in drunken state. (Congratulations to Police Commissioner Amiteshkumar for giving assurance to take action against drunkards in immersion processions! – Editor SP)

It has been mentioned in the HJS representation that it was a mockery of religious festivals that people joined the processions after having drinks, danced on film songs making weird body movements with undue attention on women. A religious festival celebrated collectively without any ‘devotion-bhav’ is also denigration of such religious festival. It is, therefore, necessary to put a curb on drunkards so that everyone can happily take part in the procession and set an ideal in front of the people.
