Complaint lodged against police officer who rammed into a vehicle in Ganesha procession at Kolhapur

Kolhapur (Maharashtra): Members of ‘Shahid Bhagatsingh Tarun Mandal’ were going to bring the idol of Sri Ganesha when Dy. Superintendent of Police (DSP) Meena Makwana rammed into a tractor carrying sound system for the procession. Mr. Uday Bhosale, a member of ‘Mandal’ lodged a complaint against Makwana in the presence of Mr. Rajesh Kshirsagar, Shiv Sena MLA, its district-chief, Mr. Sanjay Pawar, Mr. Vijay Devane, BJP district-president Mr. Mahesh Jadhav etc.
The vehicle which was hit by police jeep confiscated
Police confiscated the tractor hit by police jeep of DSP Makwana; the tractor had ‘Dolby’ sound system. The members of the ‘Mandal’ opposed the police action and demonstrated in front of the police station for 5 hours. The police, however, did not return the tractor despite repeated requests by Mr. Kshirsagar. About 200 members were waiting for the tractor; finally, another tractor was arranged to carry on the procession.

In a press conference held today, Mr. Kshirsagar said, “The police have taken such stubborn stand to cancel the procession. Will they behave in such manner if the matter concerned festival of followers of other religions? A complaint has, therefore, been lodged. If the police fail to take note of the complaint, a case will be filed in the Court. Police officials coming from other States should not try to stop Hindus from celebrating their festivals. Such things will not be tolerated. If need be, Shiv Sainiks will march to the District Chief of Police’s office. The police and Administration should take the local elected representatives in confidence when they have to carry out the orders of the Court. If Ganesha Mandals individually display the digital boards of Afzal Khan’s slaying, police can take action against members of these Mandals which can spoil their future; therefore, the hoardings will be displayed on behalf of Shiv Sena at important places in the city. Suppression enforced on celebration of Hindu festivals will not be tolerated.
