Immersion of Sri Ganesha idols will be done in River Godavari instead of artificial water tanks – assurance by the District Collector

Nanded (Maharashtra):Sri Ganesha idols are immersed in the artificial water reservoirs by the Municipality under the guise of pollution control instead of river water. To immerse Sri Ganesha idols in such water reservoir is against ‘Dharma-shastra’; therefore, idols should be immersed in natural water resources. The above demand was made through a representation by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) submitted to the District Collector Argunde. Mr. Argunde assured to the delegation of HJS that immersion would be done in River Godavari and extra water would be released for the purpose.

The HJS delegation comprised of Mr. Ganesh Kondalwar, Mr. Vyankat Vattamwar, Mr. Shahsikant Puramwar, Mr. Bajrang Raghujiwar, Narayan Katkade, Miss Rageshree Deshpande of HJS, Mr. Nandkumar Jadhav of and Mrs. Shalini Goje of Sanatan Sanstha.

It has been mentioned in the HJS representation that During the Ganesha festival, in most of the houses and even at public places, idols of Sree Ganehsa are consecrated by performing ‘puja’ of the idol as per the science.

This leads to imbibing of Sree Ganesha Principle in the idols. These idols should be immersed in natural water resource as per Hindu Dharma-shastra so that everyone gets the benefit of Sri Ganesha Principle through the water. The Municipal Corporation had, however, constructed artificial water tanks last year for immersion of idols. It did not receive much response from the Ganesha-devotees.

Immersion of Sri Ganesha idols is a matter related to religious sentiments of Hindus. Even then immersing idols in artificial water tanks under the pretext of pollution is a very sad thing. It has been informed by Maharashtra Pollution Control Board under the right to information (RTI) that immersion of Sri Ganesha idols does not cause pollution; therefore, artificial water tanks should not be constructed and Ganesha idols should be immersed in natural source of water as per Dharma-shastra.
