We shall oppose film ‘Bajirao – Mastaani’ if portion distorting history is not removed from the film ! – HJS

Mumbai : It has been observed from the trailer, teaser so also from a song ‘Pinga ga Pinga’ shown from the upcoming film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali titled ‘Bajirao- Mastaani’ that there was distortion of history. It has been shown in the above song that Bajirao’s wife Kashibai and Mastaani were dancing together. The women from royal families never danced in such perverted manner; rather, the women from noble families have exhibited valour using swords whenever necessary defeating enemies.

Bhansali is from the present day Bollywood film-makers who make girls dance and kiss strangers. He does not seem to have studied history at all and does not know the traditions followed by royal families.  In the name of freedom of expression, distortion of history is a shock for ideal family values followed by Marathas and Bhansali seems to have done it only for filling his pockets. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS), therefore, will lodge complaint with Central Film Censor Board and Central Government’s Department of Culture; demanding imposition of ban on film ‘Bajirao- Mastaani’ if the controversial scenes leading to distortion of history are not removed, says the press release of HJS; warning further that HJS would undertake nation-wide movement if the Central Government didn’t take a note of its demand.

It has been stated further in this press release that ‘The film has maligned the images of Bajirao Peshave, Kashibai and Mastaani. Does Bhansali know anything about the period of Peshavas and the language spoken, way of dressing, nobility and culture of women? In fact, the descendants of Peshava have expressed anguish over portrayal of royal women from their families in this manner, by not showing them even decently dressed. Bajirao Peshave has been referred to as a brave warrior from Maharashtra in history after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. In 21 years of his regime, he fought 41 battles, never losing even one; but keeping all that aside, Bhansali has limited Bajirao to Mastaani and depicted him only as a lover which is despicable. In all, Bhansali has made mockery of a great warrior in history through his film ‘Bajirao- Mastaani’.
